Be in-specification:
On 16th May 1924, Dr. Walter Shewhart demonstrated how to reduce variation by increasing quality with the use of Control Charts. This is an important point in history, as Dr. Shewhart showed how products or services could be measured and adjusted to exceed world specifications.
A Control Chart displays a product or service that is either in-specification or out-of-specification. Variables that remain between the upper and lower control limits remain in the specification and is given the Quality Assurance stamp of compliance and acceptance. Fall outside these control limits and your product or service is considered a departure or deviation from specification.
You see... by having too much v a r i a t i o n as opposed to having the correct (variation) comes with its shortfalls or losses which comes at a cost to impair third world nations, making them inclined to be non-competitive with the developed world compliance and acceptance standards. The 21st century is here, however, many Third World countries lack the ability to calibrate production and service sectors to rapidly reduce unwanted v a r i a t i o n. In other words, too much variation is linked to greater 'costs' and being noncompetitive in world markets.
Any deviation from Total Quality means more defects; more non-conformance; more structured faults; more failures; more liabilities; more errors; more rework; more shortfalls or losses more complaints; more setbacks; more cost. In general, where there are greater costs means there is an allowance for more 'waste' within a process or system.
