The Deming Prize is Japan's national quality award for industry. It is one of the most sought after quality achievements in the world. Established in 1951 by the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) and was named after Dr. W. Edwards Deming who brought statistical quality control methodology to Japan after WWII.

On rare occasions, many notable companies outside Japan have applied and also distinguished themselves by winning this prestigious Deming Prize. Among these companies are Florida Power and Light in 1989; Sundaram Clayton Ltd, India's leading supplier of automotive components in 1998; and Hi-Tech Carbon GMPD of India in 2002 have all won the prestigious Deming Prize.
